CreativePro Office was down for about 4 hours early this morning (PST). We use Slicehost to host CPO and they have been migrating servers from a data center in St. Louis to a Chicago data center. Our servers were migrated around 2:00 am this morning and the migration took about 3 hours to complete. We're happy to say that, other than the downtime, the migration was successful.
Why didn't we let our users know about the impending migration? To be honest, we thought we were already migrated. We had the option of migrating our servers on our own several weeks ago - and so we did just that. We timed the migration to happen over a weekend when application use is very low. We thought the migration was a success but, apparently, it failed and was rolled back by Slicehost. Somehow we overlooked this fact and our servers were auto-migrated last night with about 2 hours of warning.
This morning, our servers had been rebooted and were dutifully waiting for us to log in so they could finish the boot process. So, we're sorry if this caused any users some inconvenience. Slicehost has been a great platform for us as we've expanded our user base over the past 3 years and, so far, this has been the only significant glitch on their part.
Thanks for reading - and for your patience. As usual, if you have any questions about server uptime or the migration, please contact us.
